Northampton-based Specialist Fleet Services has been awarded a landmark 14 million contract by Cory Environmental Municipal Services to provide over 200 vehicles for its Cornwall collection service.

Commenting on the contract Nigel Carr, general manager for Cory, said: Cory has been operating in Cornwall, near Truro, since 1990 and we are delighted to have been selected by Cornwall Council for this significant contract. We have found SFS to be a very professional organisation that shares the same ethos, and they are a valuable partner in helping us deliver the highest standards of service in Cornwall. The contract offers value for money as well as a responsive and flexible service.

The contract is one of the largest municipal vehicle hire contracts in the UK.

Bob Sweetland, managing director of SFS, said: This is a very prestigious contract and we are honoured to have been selected as Corys preferred provider. We are committed to helping Cory deliver a top class service to the residents of Cornwall.

Cornwall

Cory was awarded the 125 million contract by Cornwall council, after being named preferred bidder in November 2011 (see letsrecycle.com story).

The service, which begins in April 2012 and will run for eight years, will see Cory replace the eight different providers currently responsible for collecting Cornwalls waste.

The contract will also see Cory take over street and beach cleansing services for the council, which SFS will also provide vehicles for.

The Cornwall award is not SFSs first large contract with a major waste services provider. In 2011 it signed a 5-year hire agreement with Biffa to provide 25 vehicles for its 32 million Hampshire contract (see letsrecycle.com story).

SFS has also provided several local authorities with hire vehicles for their waste collection services, including; Kettering borough council, Weymouth & Portland and Northampton borough council.
