Kanadevia Inova has completed construction and commissioning of the Rivenhall Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) near Kelvedon in Essex.

The facility, developed by Indaver through its subsidiary Indaver Rivenhall Limited and designed and built by Kanadevia Inova, achieved Provisional Acceptance on 18 April 2026.

The certification confirms that all construction and commissioning activities have been successfully finalised following the start of works in October 2022.

Indaver previously awarded contracts worth up to £500 million for the construction of the plant.

Kanadevia Inova will remain involved in the project through a long-term service agreement agreed in June 2025, under which it will continue to support the facility’s operation and maintenance.

Daniel Dreier, Kanadevia Inova’s Executive Vice President, Waste to X and Renewable Gas Plants, said: “We’re immensely proud to successfully design, build and commission the Rivenhall Integrated Waste Management Facility for our valued clients at Indaver.

“This modern facility continues the UK’s journey to delivering environmentally sustainable waste management solutions while also generating significant volumes of baseload energy.”

Rivenhall facility ready for operation

Located within a former quarry site, the Rivenhall IWMF is a two-line Energy from Waste (EfW) facility designed to process up to 595,000 tonnes of residual municipal and commercial waste each year.

The plant is expected to generate approximately 55MW of electricity.

Kristien Schoonjans, Group Engineering Director at Indaver, added: “The Rivenhall handover reflects the effective collaboration between the Indaver project team and Kanadevia Inova, with the fully commissioned plant now ready for Indaver’s operations team.”

Indaver Rivenhall secured the contract for Essex County Council’s medium-term residual waste treatment, which began in April 2025. The agreement runs for seven years, with an option to extend for a further seven years.

Kanadevia is involved in multiple UK EfW projects, having completed construction for Enfinium’s Skelton Grange facility in Leeds which opened in September 2025, and acquired Encyclis’ Dublin EfW last month.
