Change at the top for plastics recycling firm Recoup

Plastic bottle recycling organisation Recoup has announced that its chief executive, Andrew Simmons, is to step down after five years in the post.

Mr Simmons is to continue to work with Peterborough-based Recoup on a project basis, but is re-locating to Australia.

Announcing the move, Recoup said today that its first ever chief executive, John Simmons, Andrew's father, is to take on the role once again.

John Simmons spent 11 years as chief executive after Recoup – Recycling of Used Plastics – started up in 1990. He will now lead the company into new territory as they seek to acquire materials stemming from new technologies and the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment.

Known to many in the recycling sector through his work with local authorities, industry partners and community groups to maximise the collection of plastic bottles, Andrew Simmons had been working in Australia since April this year. He has now decided to move there with his wife on a more permanent basis.

Development
At their recent AGM, the Recoup board thanked Andrew Simmons for his “considerable effort” and commitment to the organisation, and wished him well in his new life in Australia.

The Recoup board said their “strong team” would now look forward to continue the development of plastics recycling, both in traditional fields such as plastic bottle recycling, and a wider range of plastics.

John Simmons said: “The team here at Recoup are preparing for an even busier year in 2007 with a continued drive to facilitate and develop plastic recycling opportunities from both domestic and commercial sources, alongside the development and sharing of knowledge within an increasingly diverse industry.

“This will encompass subjects such as biodegradables, WEEE, ELV new technologies and sustainable packaging design. Another major focus as we move forward is to progress projects on corporate social responsibility, we aim to formulate and deliver a selection of working solutions for organisation,” the new Recoup chief executive added.

Recoup is aiming to deliver a series of conferences in 2007 to inform a wide audience on key issues and their implications on material recovery, the company revealed.
