BRPA unveils new logo and steps up government links

A new logo for the British Recovered Paper Association has been unveiled this week following a national design competition involving schools and colleges in areas where member companies are based.

The winning design was by Simon Smith, a student at Bury College of Higher Education with runners up prizes going to young people at the John Port School in Etwall, Derbyshire; Wallington County Grammar School, Surrey; and Easington Community School, Peterlee, Co. Durham.

Debra Smith of Midlands-based Holland Recycling chaired the judging panel. Mrs Smith said: “We were delighted with the enthusiasm and skills shown by all those who took part in the competition. The winning design promotes the BRPA lettering by which we are known today, but at the same time uses the recycling sign which reflects the aims of the association.”

Ray Watson, chief executive of the BRPA, (pictured presenting a prize cheque to Simon Smith) said: “Since the Association was formed in 1997 we have been carrying out many changes to improve services to members and to raise the profile of the association. We are now active members of CPI, the Confederation of Paper Industries and are involved in a number of working groups with government and local authorities.”
