Blue Group pulls the bull into the ring with Taurus tie-up

A recent tie-up between machinery supplier Blue Group and Italy’s C&G Group means that Blue are now able to offer the Taurus shear baler and baler range. The equipment will be sold via the Blue Fuchs office, based in Portishead near Bristol. Rob Mowat travelled to Daverio in Italy to find out more.

The Blue Group is a company which emphasises that it has partnership at the core of its business. So, how does the latest product in the company’s portfolio measure up?

C&G and Blue Group are working together to market the Taurus shredder range in the UK

C&G Group is a well-established manufacturer, in the heart of Italy’s region of engineering excellence, Lombardy which includes the city of Milan.

Overlooked by the Swiss Alps and touched by the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding lakes, it is hard to think heavy manufacturing would exist in the picturesque town of Davario, but C&G have been producing the Taurus shear balers there for over 50 years.

Claudio Colombo (son of the founder) remains the driving force behind product development at C&G. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience which translates through into the company’s products. With over 700 machines sold across the world, the UK remains one of C&G’s largest and most important market.

“When you compete on a global field with a product working day-in and day-out in one of the harshest environments, as a manufacturer you have to balance the ability to remain competitive whilst at the same time retaining the skill of providing both a reliable and extremely durable product. I would like to think that we do that better than most in achieving this,” said C&G managing director Gualiero Rudella.

“In terms of purchasing a product, for a customer this is a significant capital investment for a machine which has a very long working life, so it’s also vital operators get the product specification and procurement process right, from the outset,” he added.

Distributors

With the metals industry showing some signs of recovery, C&G has recently implemented a re-structuring of its global dealership, with a focus on distributors who are customer-motivated. This is where the Blue Group has been singled out, according to Terry Hughes, Managing Director at Blue Fuchs.

Mr Hughes noted: “In simple terms, our business model is all about ‘partnerships’ with the whole supply chain, from beginning to end. Making the right decisions with the right manufacturer is vital. It sounds straightforward but believe me it isn’t, you have to know what you are looking for.

“What Taurus offers is an established, extremely durable and well-engineered product.”

“What  Taurus offers is an established, extremely durable and well-engineered product. These guys are experts in their field and ooze passion in the right way. Our team can’t wait to re-establish its foot-hold in the UK.”

The Taurus range of balers and shear balers incorporate a unique, patented over-stroke mechanism on both wings which offers greater compression of the material and also reduce processing times by 30%, when compared to other shear balers on the market, the manufacturer claims. Furthermore, the Hardox wear-resistant steel inside the compression box of the Taurus range is between 40mm and 50mm in thickness, compared with just 18mm in some other machines. This means that Taurus balers are generally 20-30% heavier than similar equipment in the market, it is claimed. A coat of Hardox on the outside of the wings, again which is very uncommon on these type of machines gives them an element of elasticity if overloaded.

Features

Other key features which are unique to the ‘Bluline’ Range of balers and shear balers include a dual hydraulic cylinder system on the shear head.  This not only ensures a more even distribution of cutting force, but also reduces wear and tear on the liners and guides.  The equipment also have continuous metal bases, which means they can be positioned anywhere without the requirement of building costly foundations.

The shear guides within the Taurus range are made from tempered steel and lined with a dense, synthetic polymer sheet. This combination of polymer on tempered steel greatly reduces wear and tear on the guides and means that any tiny metallic particles and filings that find their way in between the guides and the shear head become embedded in this polymer lining, avoiding any damage to the shear head linings.

The squeeze box length on the Bluline Shear Baler Series range from 5m to 8.3m and come with a shear force of between 450 tonnes up to 2000 tonnes.

With businesses continuing to anticipate changes in the market ahead of Brexit, it is encouraging to see Blue continuing to cement its relationships within Europe. The company maintains that while there could be some choppy Brexit waters ahead, it is well placed to weather any potential storm and be in a position to offer the “outstanding” Taurus machine to the UK.
