Greener Lifestyle pleaded guilty to three charges at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 14 September 2026 following an Environment Agency investigation.
The company was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay £11,796.50 in costs and a £2,000 victim surcharge, bringing the total financial penalty to £23,796.50.
The company was also issued with a Remediation Order requiring it to remove all waste from its site on Trent Street, Birmingham, within six months.
Operating without environmental permit
The case followed a lengthy investigation by the Environment Agency into waste activities at the site.
Greener Lifestyle occupied the land in May 2025 and initially operated under registered waste exemptions.
However, Environment Agency inspections found that the company was not complying with the conditions attached to those exemptions. As a result, the exemptions were de-registered.
Despite this, the company continued to carry out waste operations at the site without the environmental permit required to do so.
Further site visits by Environment Agency officers found that the site had continued to accept waste.
The company was subsequently issued with formal notices ordering it to stop waste operations. However, the Environment Agency said the volume of waste at the site continued to increase.
Adam Lines, Area Environment Manager for the West Midlands at the Environment Agency, commented: “This successful prosecution demonstrates our commitment to tackling illegal waste activity and holding operators to account when they fail to comply.
“We will continue to work to protect communities, support legitimate businesses and take action where waste crime threatens the environment.
He added that the Remediation Order would help ensure the environmental issues at the site were addressed.
The Environment Agency encouraged anyone with information about suspected waste crime to report it to allow action to be taken.
It said information can be reported through its 24/7 hotline on 0800 80 70 60 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
