The contract will begin tomorrow (1 October 2024) and applies to the health board’s 47 sites across the region – including Ninewells Hospital and Perth Royal Infirmary.
Binn Group will be responsible for Tayside’s residual, electrical and green waste as well as glass and a broad range of recycled materials including dry mixed recycling, metals and bulky goods.
It was recently announced that Keenan Recycling will be managing the food waste for the site.
The NHS Tayside is a healthcare board that provides services to Angus, Dundee City, and Perth and Kinross which serves approximately 420,000 people. Its headquarters are located in Ninewells Hospital.
Brian Harkins, managing director of Binn Group, said: “We’re delighted to announce this new waste management contract with our local health care provider, NHS Tayside. This significant contract covers major hospitals and a number of local healthcare centres across Tayside.
“As a company committed to sustainable waste management practices, we will work closely with NHS Tayside to manage their current waste disposal requirements and, importantly, help them maximise recycling efficiency and reduce overall waste levels across their operations.”
The waste management company said that it has recently invested in a multi-million-pound waste sorting technology, and it hopes that the new partnership will deliver cost efficiencies by decreasing the volume of residual waste produced by the health board.
