Biffpack passes Environment Agency inspection with flying colours

Compliance scheme Biffpack has passed an audit by the Environment Agency with flying colours.

The inspection is the latest success for Biffpack which recently announced its soaring growth with registration figures of 385 to date and 10 in Northern Ireland.

The Environment Agency looked at Biffpack's procedures for handling member's data, the collection of information and the evaluation and approval of submissions from members.

Biffpack demonstrated the steps it has taken to plan Packaging Recovery Notes (PRN) procurement and the checks and balances in place to ensure compliance. The Agency also praised Biffpack for its new website which provides information for the public on the recycling of packaging and other wastes. The site was set up as part of Biffpack's Consumer Information Obligations (CIO).

James Butler, of Biffpack, said: “Preparing for these inspections is always a tense time – even though our procedures are audited four times a year as part of our ISO 9002 registration and we are confident in our systems. Biffpack has now had several of these Agency inspections over the years and, as before, at the end of the audit both parties seemed very satisfied with the outcome – we are certainly pleased to be given such a &#39c;lean bill of health'.”

Biffpack also recently held a one-day training course on Packaging Waste Regulations. The course was aimed at anyone who needs to understand the regulations and wants to know how legislation will affect them. Ten delegates attended the course which focused on the practical application of the regulations within a company and included how to determine obligation, how to calculate targets and the various routes to compliance.
