![]() Cllr Rosemary Todd reveals the success of her council's battery recycling scheme |
The council launched the battery recycling scheme last autumn and Cllr Rosemary Todd, executive member for sustainability and the environment, said the authority was delighted with the results.
Cllr Todd said: “We were very pleased to be able to add domestic batteries to the wide range of materials already collected in the district.”
The message to residents from the council is that all undamaged household batteries can be put in the green boxes. The authority recommends that householders collect a few together and put them in a small paper or plastic bag at the top of the recycling box where they can be easily seen.
Alternatively, batteries can be taken to the Household Waste and Recycling Centres where there are banks set aside specifically to collect the batteries.

Cost of the scheme is put at about 1,000 per tonne and the council estimates total annual volumes will be about three tonnes. Bath and North East Somerset pay for collection of the batteries from recycling company G&P; Batteries which takes them to its plant in the West Midlands.
