Bank of Scotland backs new recycling facility in Kettering

Wastecom is now to start work on the 40,000 square foot plant at Furnace Park on the Telford Way Trading Estate. It will recycle household waste as well as industrial, construction and demolition waste.

The new plant will initially process between 50,000 and 100,000 tonnes each year, but has a total capacity to handle up to 200,000 tonnes of material each year. Up to 90% of the waste brought into the plant will be recycled into re-usable materials, the company said.

Construction and demolition waste will be turned into recycled aggregates to be sold to road-building companies. The plant will recycle domestic waste including glass, plastic, aluminium, steel, paper and cardboard, while garden and kitchen waste will be composted.

James Harris, director of new business for Bank of Scotland Corporate, said: “Recycling is big business at the moment thanks to the (Landfill) Directive. We all have to be more aware of the environment and what happens to our waste, in both the domestic and commercial arenas.

“Wastecom will not only provide a service to assist in the reclamation of materials, it will also be well placed geographically to benefit from industrial and domestic high demand,” Mr Harris added.

Wastecom was set up in February this year by managing director Chris Simms, who previously worked for large construction and engineering companies. Mr Simms said: “My activities in the construction and demolition industry for nearly 17 years have made me aware for the need of a facility like this.”
