Aylesford to receive 20m support for 200m plus project

Aylesford Newsprint is to invest more than 200 million in construction of its new newsprint reprocessing capacity in Kent and will receive 20 million of funding through WRAP for the project, Vic Cocker chairman of the Waste and Resources Action Programme said today.

Speaking after the Waste Summit in London today, Mr Cocker said that WRAP is “making good progress in creating markets for recycling and products”.

“We are making good progress and we have been able to use government funding to lever in private sector firms. And, we announced on Friday a significant newsprint recycling addition in the UK on the back of 20 million funding, largely from the private sector, on which we are able to bring in over 200 million of funding from Aylesford.”

Mr Cocker added: “So we are expanding the scale of recycling. We believe that we can develop markets substantially and we believe that with the right sort of fiscal climate we have a good chance of delivering on the increase in recycling targets.”

Of the 20m funding being channelled through WRAP it is estimated that about 16m is being provided by the waste management sector through Landfill Tax credits, so reducing the cash input from WRAP itself which has limited funds for large individual projects.
