The event on Saturday raised over 23,000 for the children's hospital, which is also celebrating an anniversary – the 100th anniversary of its major benefactor, Peter Pan. The hospital was bequeathed the copyright for the famous children's story by author JM Barrie, and has received royalties ever since.

Saturday's event was staged at London Zoo and hosted by Cheryl Baker, with representatives of the recycling sector raising money through events including a charity auction. Bids for items including signed Formula One photographs and executive tickets for Manchester United as well as a raffle and several other activities raised 23,354.
Aylesford's regional manager, Karen Newell, who organised the event, said: “To raise 23,354 for such an important organisation is fantastic. We would whole-heartedly like to thank all of those who supported the event either by coming along or by donating goods.”

Aylesford has been supporting Great Ormond Street since 1993, raising a total of 150,000 in that time. Last year Aylesford staff delivered Christmas presents to the children staying at GOSH and also conjured up a magician.
Commenting on the success of the venture, Great Ormond Street's senior fundraising executive Matt Forrest said: “Aylesford has supported GOSH for the last eight years, raising more than 150,000. This 10th anniversary fundraising ball is a culmination of that work and fits in well with GOSH’s own celebrations for the centenary of Peter Pan.”
“Great Ormond Street Hospital's fundraising target for the year is 28 million which will help to maintain the hospital’s position as one of the pioneering European paediatric hospitals. It’s thanks to companies like Aylesford Newsprint organising events such as this gala ball that our fundraising is so successful,” he added.
