With news on Remondis UK promoting from within; director of sales joining Yorwaste, Recolight appointing board members and chair; and, fresh faces at technology firm Yotta.

Director of sales joins Yorwaste

North-Yorkshire-based waste management company Yorwaste has appointed Chris Leach as director of sales as the company looks to expand over the next few years.

Mr Leach, who has worked in the waste industry for 25 years, has joined Yorwaste from West Yorkshire based Orchard Environmental, where he was associate director of sales. He will be based at Yorwaste’s Harewood Whin Resource Recovery Centre in York.

The 57-year-old has been tasked with coordinating and driving the commercial side of Yorwaste’s business, including exploring new business opportunities and increasing profitability.

He is part of a newly formed commercial team at Yorwaste, which includes commercial director Richard Abell, key account manager Gill Mulroe, business development manager Ken Davidson and director of future developments Tony Sharkey.

Steve Grieve, managing director of Yorwaste, said: “Chris has a proven track record in the sector and is an excellent addition to the commercial team at Yorwaste. He will play an important role in helping the company meet its growth ambitions in the years ahead.”

Remondis UK promotes from within

International waste business, Remondis, has promoted Louise Holt to the role of joint managing director for Remondis UK. Ms Holt most recently served as assistant manager to the directors of Remondis since joining the organisation in March 2002.

In the past four years, she has been responsible for providing substantial support to the managing directors and was able to shadow them in order to learn the role.

Ms Holt said: “In the past 13 years, I’ve been privileged to work with the fantastic team at Remondis and learn all about the hazardous waste industry. I’m delighted to be able to build upon this knowledge and to use it to help shape the future direction of Remondis in the UK.

“The waste sector has a key role to play within the economic recovery and we are committed to further investment in our operations in this market, as well as global partnerships, to deliver the most effective closed loop recycling solutions.”

Commenting on the announcement, Marcus Bauer, joint managing director at Remondis UK, said: “It is with great pleasure that we announce Louise’s new role. With 13 years’ hands-on experience, she is a natural successor to this role and brings a wealth of experience to lead and continue the company’s growth.”

Yotta makes senior appointments

Waste software and technology specialist Yotta has expanded its UK operation with two senior appointments.

Kevin Smith joins the company as head of support and consulting and Mike Green joins as mayrise account manager – with responsibility for a range of local authority service areas including waste.

Based out of the company’s headquarters in Royal Leamington Spa and satellite office in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire, the new recruits are intedned to strengthen Yotta’s business.

These appointments demonstrate our dedication and determination to provide first class customer support to our growing UK customer base.”

Recolight appoints board members and chair

Recolight, the WEEE compliance scheme for the lighting industry, has announced the appointment of Peter Florack as its new chairman.

Mr Florack, senior director at OSRAM AG, has over ten years’ industry experience. He replaces David Wyatt of GE Lighting who retired at the end of 2014, having served as chair for seven years. Mr Florack has considerable experience of WEEE in a number of other EU countries and has been on the Recolight board for over three years.

In addition, Steven Reed of GE Lighting has re-joined the Recolight board after a seven year absence.

Other members of the Recolight board are Maurice Loosschilder, sustainability director at Philips, also with experience of WEEE across Europe, who joined Recolight in September 2014, and Bridget Anderson, financial controller of Havells Sylvania, who joined in January 2014.

Recolight chief executive, Nigel Harvey, said: “We’re very pleased that Peter Florack has accepted his new role as chair. Peter joined our board in 2011 and has been integral in our recent developments. Together with Steven Reed, Maurice Loosschilder, and Bridget Anderson, the board has the experience and commitment to support the continued growth of Recolight, and the standards on which our reputation is founded.”
