EdenServ began delivering the service yesterday (28 September 2026), replacing Suez Recycling and Recovery UK as the council’s waste and recycling collection provider.
The new company is wholly owned by East Devon District Council and has been established to deliver recycling, waste and environmental services on behalf of the authority.
The council said EdenServ has been created to provide a “resilient, locally owned service” while supporting its environmental ambitions, delivering social value and providing long-term value for local communities.
For residents, the council said the change will be “business as usual”, with collection arrangements and customer contact channels remaining unchanged.
Nigel Hinton, Assistant Contract Manager at Suez, said: “For many of our colleagues, working for Suez in East Devon has been a huge part of their working lives.
“Looking back over the years, what stands out most is the dedication colleagues have shown to residents every day.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has played a part in the contract’s success and recognise the contribution they have made to the communities we have served.”
Council-owned company to take over collections
The EdenServ name and branding will be introduced gradually on collection vehicles and staff uniforms over the coming weeks.
While the company is new, the council said many of the people delivering the service already have extensive experience of working with residents and communities across East Devon.
Councillor Geoff Jung, East Devon District Council’s portfolio holder for Environment and Coast, commented: “The launch of EdenServ marks an exciting new chapter for recycling and waste services in East Devon.
“By establishing a council-owned company, we are creating a service that is rooted in our communities and focused on delivering reliable, high-quality services for residents both now and in the future.”
Councillor Jung also thanked Suez for its “sustained support” and co-operation during the changeover.
Suez was awarded the contract in 2016, for an initial seven years, which was then extended a further three years in 2023.

“Together we pioneered three weekly collections and have seen East Devon consistently achieve one of the top recycling rates in England. We finish on a high note having consistently delivered excellent customer service and high recycling performance.”
East Devon District Council had the sixth highest recycling rate of local authorities in 2024/25, sitting at 60.10%.
