Alex Hilton to join Beyondly team

Environmental compliance scheme Beyondly will be joined by Alex Hilton as its director of policy and public affairs on 30 June 2025.
Beyondly rebranded under its new name from Comply Direct in 2023 and has expanded across the environmental and regulatory landscape ever since.
Hilton was formerly the head of sustainability at HM Revenue and Customs.
He said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to join Beyondly and build on their extensive expertise.
“I’m especially looking forward to supporting Beyondly’s customers, helping them have a more powerful voice and drive real, meaningful impact.”
Powerday appoints ex-Telford executive

Waste management company Powerday has appointed an ex-Telford Home’s executive as its associate director for environmental sustainability.
Alongside his role as head of sustainability at Telford Home, John O’Dwyer has also worked at Vinci, McGee and Murphy Group.
O’Dwyer said: “I’m excited to be joining such a forward-thinking business which clearly recognises the vital role the waste management sector plays in progressing towards a decarbonised society.
“Powerday’s ethos was a real draw for me, and I am keen to lean on my experience to support the already great work being done here.”
New trade and environment policy officer joins the BIR secretariat in Brussels

Bianca Mannini has joined the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) as its new trade and environment policy officer.
Mannini has a background in political science and sustainability, having previously come from a non-profit background in Italy.
BIR director general Arnaud Brunet said: “Bianca’s expertise and commitment to sustainability make her a valuable addition to our advocacy team.
“We are very pleased to have her join BIR and are confident she will significantly contribute to our global efforts.”
Plan B Management Solutions hires new head of business development

Andy Peters has been announced as the head of business development for Plan B Management Solutions.
Peters will be responsible for the growth of Plan B’s Managed Services business which won the Bridgend household waste, recycling and CRC tender in 2024.
Maz Akhtar, managing director at Plan B, said: “We are delighted to welcome Andy to the team in the newly created role of Head of Business Development.
“Andy has a proven record in the Waste Management Industry with over 15 years of experience working in various business development roles.
“This experience coupled with our internal capabilities will help with the growth of the business creating further opportunities.”
Geoff Courtney made chair of metal packaging association

Geoff Courtney has officially been appointed as the new chair of the Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association (MPMA).
Courtney will replace Aidan Ruddock who had held the post since April 2019.
He has been deputy chair of the MPMA since 2021 and has a sales background in the packaging industry, having begun his career in 1994.
The new chair has previously held roles as director and chair of beverage can industry bodies, BCME and The Can Makers.
Jason Galley, director and chief executive at the MPMA, said: “We are delighted that Geoff has accepted this role. He has long been supportive of MPMA and has already made a significant contribution on our council and as deputy chair.
“The UK packaging industry has many challenges on the legislative front, and in the face of an increasingly volatile and unpredictable international environment there has rarely been a more vital time for the collective front and leadership that trade associations provide.
“I am delighted to be working closely with Jason and the MPMA team to present a united response for metal packaging.”
Mark Collins joins Clearpoint Recycling commercial team

Clearpoint Recycling has appointed Mark Collins as a senior account manager in its commercial team.
Collins has over two decades of experience in the waste management sector, with particular expertise in the sourcing and procurement of plastics.
The waste management company is in the middle of an international expansion effort, having recently opened a dedicated sales office in Lithuania.

“His extensive industry experience and insights into the film market will be a valuable asset as we continue to scale.

Wood Recyclers’ Association appoints new membership manager

The Wood Recyclers’ Association (WRA) has announced the appointment of Gaynor Pates as its new membership manager.
Pates is the former chair of the Trade Association Forum and comes from a wider background in the trade association sector.
Going forward, she will be the man point of contact for all WRA members and manage member recruitment.
She replaces former membership manager Erica Malkin who is leaving to expand her role with the Stove Industry Association (SIA).
Julia Turner, executive director of the WRA, said: “We are delighted to welcome Gaynor to our team.
“Our members are at the heart of everything we do so having a dedicated membership manager with so much experience of working in the trade association sector will help ensure we remain laser-focused on what our members need.
“A big thank you and farewell to Erica for all her brilliant work for the WRA on behalf of our members.”
