Biffa to acquire Sheffield chemical treatment plant

Biffa has acquired the Chemical Treatment arm of Enviroco

Waste management firm Biffa is to acquire Enviroco’s Chemical Treatment Division as it looks to further expand its hazardous waste treatment arm.

The acquisition, due to be completed by the end of 2015, will see Biffa take control of Enviroco’s hazardous waste fleet and waste transfer facility in Sheffield.

Enviroco, a supplier of waste management services to the UK oil and gas industry, currently carries out hazardous waste collections for more than 80 clients from its Sheffield site.

Once finalised, the integration will see Biffa establish one of the largest waste transfer station networks in the UK – expanding its services and increasing its market share in collection and disposal of hazardous waste, the company says.

PHS

Commenting on the agreement, Ian Wakelin, chief executive of Biffa, said the purchase complimented the firm’s acquisition of PHS Group’s Chemical Treatment arm in September.

The sale included PHS’ Chemical Waste business in Burscough, Stevenage and Atherstone, De-Pack in Loughborough, Recyclite in Attleborough and Spill Control in Tamworth (see letsrecycle.com story).

Mr Wakelin said: “The collection, management and disposal of hazardous waste is a high growth area in the UK and one in which the winners will be those with geographic scale and technical expertise.

“The agreement to purchase Enviroco’s Chemical Treatment Division, following the now-completed PHS acquisition, is in line with our strategy to enhance significantly our capabilities in this field.

“We are delighted to welcome the Enviroco team to Biffa and we look forward to working with them as we enter this new and exciting phase of growth in Hazardous Waste.”
