Speaking to letsrecycle.com, Mr Woods who becomes president of the association last month, explained that during his three years in office he had a number of aims.
While accepting that some see the sector as the “rag trade”, the new president emphasised that textile recyclers do a lot more, playing a big part in recycling and reuse. Part of his work will be to promote the “important role” that textile recyclers play from working with the charity sector, through to job creation, exports and finding uses for textile materials.
Presidency
Mr Woods who has been on the TRA’s executive board is taking over from the presidency from Ross Barry, whose three-year term at the helm of the trade association comes to an end in March 2015.
Speaking after he was voted in as new chairman last month, Mr Woods said: “We look forward to continuing our work with WRAP and Zero Waste Scotland on the Sustainable Clothing Action Plan, and through the Bureau of International Recycling we will continue to push the textile recycling agenda at international level. This industry is in a position to make a significant contribution to the circular economic and carbon reduction targets and the Textile Recycling Association will be at the forefront of this.”
