The 25-year contract to dispose of waste in three boroughs in Berkshire – Bracknell Forest borough council, Reading borough council and Wokingham district council – comes under the “Re3 Project”.

The Re3 project, which is backed by 37 million of government Private Finance Initiative money, has been put together by the three councils with the target of recycling 40% of waste by 2010 and 50% in the long term.
WRG beat Shanks to the preferred bidder slot with a proposal that included the development of two new waste management parks at Island Road in Reading and Longshot Lane in Bracknell.
These developments would include provision of two civic amenity sites, a materials recycling facility handling up to 50,000 tonnes of recyclable materials a year and new waste transfer facilities.
Education
WRG proposes to support the waste minimisation objectives of the partnership through education and awareness initiatives delivered through dedicated staff and provision of a visitor and education centre at both waste management parks.
Further composting, recovery and disposal services would be provided through subcontractors at other existing or planned facilities backed up by WRG's composting and landfill capacity.
