Waste management companies Waste Recycling Group and Focsa Services are being integrated into a single brand, FCC Environment, their Spanish parent company FCC has formally revealed today (June 29).
The change was announced by FCC chairman Baldomero Falcones last night at the annual meeting of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, where he claimed the companys goals in the UK were aligned with the coalitions aim to be the greenest government ever.
The rebrand will bring together Focsas collection-focused operations and Waste Recycling Groups (WRG) activities, which focus on areas such as disposal and energy recovery, into a single. According to FCC, the new company, FCC Environment, will have a market share of 5-6% and hold more than 100 contracts with 60 UK councils.
At last nights event, Mr Falcones said FCCs three main business areas in the UK infrastructure, environmental services and renewable energy matched the governments policies, which meant FCC is in the right place at the right time.
Subsidiary
Spanish construction and services giant FCC created Focsa Services UK in 1989 as a subsidiary of Spanish services company FCC Medio Ambiente. It now has a workforce of over 1,000, runs collection services for councils such as Carlisle city council and Falkirk council and has headquarters in Rochdale, Lancashire.
It also holds a 25-year PFI funded waste management contract with Herefordshire and Worcestershire county councils, signed in 1998, which is being delivered by its subsidiary Severn Waste Services.
Northampton-based WRG was acquired by FCC in 2006 and operates a range of facilities, among them energy-from-waste incinerators at Allington in Kent and Eastcroft near Nottingham. Together, these two plants can produce 55 megawatts of electricity.
It also runs several landfill sites and holds a range of high-profile contracts with local authorities such as the PFI-funded re3 partnership involving Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham borough councils.
Rebranding
Speaking to letsrecycle.com this morning, a spokesman for WRG said that there were no further details on the exact timescale for the integration of WRG and Focsa as one brand.
But, he said: Its going to be a complex business bringing the two businesses together but well progress now and it will be implemented probably by the end of the year.
He confirmed it would eventually mean new branding for the two subsidiaries various operations, as well as livery and signage for vehicles.
And, he added: This is a very exciting time for the FCC group which has very ambitious business plans outside Spain. The UK is an important market place for it.
