The initiative was launched in London yesterday, as the government-funded market development organisation aims to work with companies currently involved with recycling to help them attract investment.
Dr Bevis Watts, business and finance manager for the Waste and Resources Action Programme, said that over the next two years WRAP aims to help the recycling sector grow at twice the growth rate of the national GDP.
WRAP already offers companies the chance to gain from the skills of a short-term interim manager with expertise in attracting funding. The new initiative, set to begin in July, will help to improve the skills of existing staff.
Confidence
Nick Kightley, WRAP's business projects manager, said that evidence of staff training carried out by recycling companies could give much-needed confidence to investors.
Typical areas where staff could gain extra qualifications could include financial planning, strategic development, risk management and health and safety.
WRAP is also offering advice for companies seeking funding from private lenders including banks. Peter Mainprize, business development advisor at WRAP, said: “Bankers need explaining in simple terms what a recycling business is all about. We will help a business present this clearly to financers.”

Recycling firms will be able to have potential markets and competition analysed, along with help on communications.
Other help that WRAP is offering recyclers and those seeking to move into recycling includes advice on safeguarding innovative technologies and the possibilities for leasing equipment.
