The decision has been taken after Queen Elizabeth II’s death last Thursday (8 September), with the Queen’s state funeral to be held on Monday 19 September.
Recycle Week has been postponed for “obvious reasons” and a new date has not yet been confirmed, a spokesperson for WRAP told letsrecycle.com.
The move comes as many events across the country have been postponed or cancelled to pay respect after the death of Her Majesty.
Theme
This year’s event’s theme is Let’s Get Real About Recycling, referring to the ‘radical transparency’ approach needed to be taken to increase recycling rates.
The theme was launched a few months ago with Recycle Week described by WRAP as “the largest national annual recycle campaign” – it is delivered by WRAP’s Recycle Now division and has been running since 2004.
Craig Stephens, campaign manager for Recycle Now, said the week is “the one week of the year where retailers, brands, waste management companies local authorities, and other government organisations all come together to galvanise the public to recycle more, the right things more often.”

Sponsors of this year’s event included Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Innocent, Danone, and Ocado.
The reason for the “Let’s get real about recycling,” slogan is, explained Mr Stephens, because “people are searching for radical transparency in every walk of life, we know citizens are taking no nonsense this year.”
Manifesto
The theme of the week manifesto, WRAP has explained, was to be: “We’re a nation of real recyclers. Real people, with real lives that sometimes get in the way. Forgot to rinse after a long day? We’ve all been there. And everyone chucks without checking once in a while.
“But the reality is that wrong items can spoil the bunch, and make a whole lorry load un-recyclable. We’ve come a long way, but there’s still room to grow. If every citizen, brand and organisation plays their part, progress will keep happening all round. So, let’s check the locator and get recycling right. It won’t take much to make a real difference. This Recycle Week, we’re getting real. About where we are. Where we want to be and how we’re all going to get there, together.”
