Commenting on the appointment, WRAP's director of procurement and business programmmes, Steve Creed, said: “Northern Ireland has set a recycling target of 25% of household waste by 2005. This sets a challenging agenda for market development and we are delighted to have Ian on board. His role is to demonstrate to businesses in Northern Ireland the many opportunities created by these challenging targets.”

In his new position, Dr Garner will focus on creating and developing effective relationships with stakeholders within Northern Ireland. He will also support WRAP’s programmes in procurement, finance, standards and key material streams, to ensure they meet the market needs in Northern Ireland.

Dr Garner said: “I am delighted to have been appointed by WRAP. European recycling targets present Northern Ireland with a huge challenge and create many business opportunities. I am looking forward to working with Northern Ireland businesses to help them seize the many exciting prospects.”
