Winners of 2002 recycling awards announced

A range of winners were unveiled at the National Recycling Awards at the Cardiff International Arena earlier this evening (November 5) with Knotwood from Plastic Reclamation Ltd winning the Recycled Product of the Year Award, which is sponsored by letsrecycle.com.

The Recycling Officer of the Year was Steve Palfry of Dorset County Council and the category was sponsored by Cleanaway. /photos/awards02.jpgPictured are Dominic Holland, comedian and host for the awards; Jane Rayner, editor of Materials Recycling Week which organised the awards; Steve Palfry; and Paul Jackson, sales and marketing director of Cleanaway.

The award for Best Local Authority Initiative, sponsored by Severnside Recycling, went to South Northamptonshire Council. The Best Industry Recycling Initiative, sponsored by Biffa, was won by Akristos for tile waste recycling.

Best Partnership Project saw the Cornwall Paper Company receive the award sponsored by Evolve while Recycling Rate Success, sponsored by PaperChain went to the Queen Elizabeth Conference Centre, London.

The Valpak-sponsored Best Waste Minimisation Project was awarded to University College, Northampton. The best information and Communication Campaign, sponsored by the Environmental Services Association, was won by Tower Hamlets Council.

Best community project, sponsored by UPM-Kymmene, went to CanDo for can recycling. The best reprocessing initiative was awarded to Hadfield Wood Recyclers and was sponsored by Shanks.
