The contract has seen Manchester-based Whitham Mills install a GB1108 baler, along with an accompanying 6000lb feed conveyor at the site.

The GB1108 baler is fully automatic and able to process up to 12 tonnes per hour. Capable of handling both paper and cardboard, it can produce bales weighing up to 740kg and measuring 1100mm x 750mm x 1500mm.

Ras al-Khaimah

Ras al-Khaimah is the most northern of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – and has a population of close to 365,000.

The contract comes amid a continued global expansion by the UK business. Whitham Mills completed the installation of the machinery last month (October).

The company’s managing director Ben Smart said: “This contract is the latest in a succession of export deals for Whitham Mills. Part of our growth strategy has always been to take our reputation for providing reliable and cost effective recycling solutions to a global marketplace.

“Recently we have been sought out to deliver waste processing machinery in Norway, France and Germany. We’re now looking for distribution partners to work with on the continent and would invite interested parties to get in touch. There is also likely to be further work in the UAE following the successful delivery in Ras al-Khaimah.”

Other recent projects by the firm include the design, installation and commissioning of a bespoke roll cage tipping system for food waste on behalf of the retail chain Tesco at ten sites across the UK (see letsrecycle.com story).
