The site consists of two facilities – a bulk transfer station and household waste recycling centre. It has been built as part of Viridor's 25-year waste management contract with the county and its districts.

The “Reclaim West Sussex” partnership aims to see 45% of waste in the county recycled by 2015.
Local residents and councillors were present for the opening of the new facility – including Councillor Frank Wilkinson, cabinet member for strategic planning at West Sussex. Cllr Wilkinson said: “This brand new facility will meet the needs of local residents for the foreseeable future.”
The transfer station will receive household waste and recyclable materials collected by Chichester and Arun district councils. Viridor will then bulk the waste for transportation to a waste treatment plant or materials recycling facility.
Opportunities
Peter Miller, contract operations manager for Reclaim West Sussex, said: “The Westhampnett bulk transfer station and HWRC has been designed to provide better opportunities for recycling, reduced queuing and provide safer access for residents.
“It will enable householders to dispose of bulky household waste that is unsuitable for kerbside collection more easily than before and to deposit other recyclables such as cans, plastic, bottles glass, green waste, electrical goods, wood and tyre,” he added.
