SR Waste Recycling, which is based near Barnsley, has now been placed in liquidation by its owners and is due to face the Agency at Barnsley Magistrates Court on July 24 over the allegations.

The company faces charges relating to a failure to comply with an enforcement notice served on February 27 2012 under Regulation 36 of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010. The notice was served over alleged storage of non permitted waste on its site at Shaw Lane, Carlton in Barnsley.
SR Waste Recycling has also been accused of failing to ensure that waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) stored at the site had been covered and that the appropriate weatherproofing measures were in place, contrary to Regulation 38 of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations.
Its director and chairman Simon Robinson of Harry Road, Gawber, is also due in Court to answer for the charges.
Permit
The court date comes after the Agency revoked the permits for SR Waste Recyclings WEEE recycling facility at Shaw Lane on June 30 following a four week notice period. This means that the company will no longer be able to take waste onto the site, and has had to remove all material that had been stored at the location.
A permit for premises owned by the business at Oakwell Business Park has also been revoked, but the site had no longer been in use prior to the suspension.
Set up in 2007, SR Waste Recycling collected WEEE such as IT equipment, large domestic appliances and small WEEE from businesses and public sector organisations across Yorkshire. The Carlton site received around 700 tonnes of WEEE for processing per year. Waste taken onto the site was dismantled by hand.
Adrian Graham and Julian Pitts of insolvency firm Begbies Traynor have been appointed as joint liquidators for the company, after a winding up motion was passed by its board at a meeting on June 23. Ten staff have left the company after it was placed into liquidation.
When contacted by letsrecycle.com, Mr Robinson confirmed that the permit for the Shaw Lane site had been revoked, but declined to comment further ahead of the forthcoming court action.
