Recycle Wales is the only packaging producer compliance scheme based in Wales and helps companies in both England and Wales to meet their obligations under the Packaging Regulations.
The company was set up in 2006 by Tina Morris, who used to work at packaging compliance scheme Biffpack but left to work for her family business LAS Recycling and set up the Recycle Wales scheme as a subsidiary. From an original membership of just eight, the company now provides packaging compliance services for 85 companies, including Ty Nant water, Millennium Copthorne hotels and Harlequin Mills and Boon.
The acquisition means that the Wastepack Group – which operates the packaging producer compliance scheme Wastepack and WEEE compliance scheme Electrolink – now provides packaging compliance services for around 1,100 businesses across the UK representing around 15% of the packaging compliance market. Its customers include the likes of Highland Spring, Brakes and Coca-Cola Northern Ireland.
Recycle Wales will continue to be managed by Tina Morris, who said it would be businesses as usual as far as the schemes customers are concerned. Ms Morris said the main reason for selling was because she had had a second baby in January 2011 and that the sale would give her more time to concentrate on the customer service side of operations. She said: It slotted in well as now I dont get involved with the Environment Agency returns side which is handled by Wastepack but can focus more on the customers, which is the part I really enjoy.
Commenting on the acquisition on general, she said: We are delighted to be part of a larger group, the inclusion of Recycle Wales into the Wastepack Group of companies will be very good for our members who will continue to receive the personal help and support we have always provided, but will now have the backing of a larger compliance scheme behind them, dedicated to providing assured cost effective compliance to all obligated companies

Paul Van Danzig, sales and marketing director at the Harlow-based Wastepack Group, told letsrecycle.com that the Recycle Wales brand would be retained and that Wastepack aimed to grown the scheme further and promote it as the only one in Wales.
He said: Because of its strategic location at Lampeter in Ceredigion it is able to look after all companies in Wales as well as elsewhere. The idea is to continue to promote it as the only Welsh compliance scheme, as well as an important scheme for businesses in England.
Wastepack chief operating officer Lynne Cullis added that the acquisition sent out a positive message about the PRN system, after producer compliance and recycling specialist Valpak had suggested that there was considerable doubt over its future (see letsrecycle.com story).
