Just a few months after another, slightly less glamorous football tournament is held in Germany this summer, the hotly-anticipated Waste World Cup 2006 is to take place in Northampton.

The fourth annual Waste World Cup will again see six-aside teams taking part, coming from across the public, private and community sectors and involving both male and female players.
Last year saw the waste management division of Barclays Bank winning a tough final against Grundon Waste Management, after a tournament involving 30 teams and 300 players from around Britain.
Once again held at the University of Northampton (the new name for University College Northampton) with letsrecycle.com as official media partners, this year's one-day tournament will involve both male and female players from all sides of the sector.

Margaret Bates, chair of the Organising Committee, said: “The Organisers of the fourth annual Waste World Cup are delighted to announce that this year's tournament will take place on September 8.
“The University of Northampton is pleased to stage this prestigious tournament, which will once again emphasise a friendly, competitive spirit with a Fair Play theme,” Dr Bates added.
Teams hoping to take part now have until the end of May 2006 to enter the tournament, after which selection will take place in the Official Draw.
To enter a team in the Waste World Cup 2006, team managers are asked to send brief details of their team to the Organising Committee – including general ability, playing style, influences and ambitions on the field of play – by emailing Margaret.Bates@northampton.ac.uk.
Teams must have a squad size of around 10, with six players on the field at any time – of which a minimum of two players must be female and a minimum of two players must be male.

A 50 fee will be required from each team that is selected to take part in the competition to cover a proportion of costs. Team numbers will be limited, therefore those teams that enter are not guaranteed to be selected.
