Viridor and AMCS partner to ‘drive digitalisation’

Technology provider AMCS and Viridor have announced today (14 November) that they have signed a deal to “drive forward” Viridor’s digitalisation programme and “improve operating efficiency”.

In a joint statement, AMCS said its platform has been successfully implemented at Viridor’s waste transfer stations in Dimmer and Walpole.

The implementation in Somerset is the first phase, with the solution to be rolled out to 22 additional sites including energy from waste (EfW) and polymer reprocessing facilities across the UK.

This will include replacing  “legacy” weighbridge systems with a cloud-based solution that also offers “additional functionality in terms of logistics scheduling, invoicing, driver assisted terminals, automatic weighbridges and on-demand forecasting,” AMCS said.

Solution

AMCS explained that the solution will aim to “improve the efficiency of all Viridor’s operational assets as well as streamline its invoicing process and production”. AMCS added that as the project progresses, the platform will be extended for use in inventory management, material grading, demand planning and supplier management.

Freddie Kavanagh, COO at AMCS

AMCS’s chief operating officer, Freddie Kavanagh, remarked: “AMCS shares Viridor’s desire to play a leading role in transforming the waste sector so it can drive the creation of a net zero and circular economy.
“This model will enable the maximum environmental and commercial value to be realized from the valuable resources managed by Viridor. We look forward to the continuation of our partnership and supporting Viridor in meeting its ESG commitments.”

‘Transformation journey’

Viridor’s chief information officer Dominic Howson commented: “This is the first step of our transformation journey using the AMCS Platform and will play a key role in the increased efficiency of our tech-driven business. We are looking forward to developing a stronger partnership with AMCS as we reach our milestones for the additional sites.”

Mr Howson continued: “It has been refreshing to work with a business that recognizes the need for transparency and has taken the time to understand our business. We have also valued the opportunity to draw on AMCS’s significant experience in the recycling and waste sector both in the UK and internationally. Digitalization is key to Viridor realizing its ambition of a ‘building a world where nothing goes to waste’ and we look forward to continuing this journey with AMCS.”
