Yorkshire councils join forces for vehicle hire contract
Under the three year contract, which has the option to extend for two lots of one year, SFS will provide the councils with ten Dennis Elite 2 6×4 standard width Olympus body with OmniDEL Xtra bin lifts and five Dennis Elite 2 6×2 narrow mid-lift Olympus body with OmniDEL standard bin lifts.
Mick Jewitt, director of Hambleton district council, said: This is the first time that we have jointly procured vehicles and there have been lots of positives from combining the expertise from both authorities. The two councils now work much more closely together which gives us greater flexibility in terms of fleet optimisation. Specialist Fleet Services has gone to great lengths to offer vehicle specification options to suit the different geography of the districts including the need for narrow vehicles to navigate the rural roads of Richmondshire.
Skip hire firm expands fleet with tipper trucks
Flintshire-based Alan Skip Hire, part of the ASH group, has added three new tipper trucks to its fleet, and will be adding two more as it expands its operations in the construction industry.
The DAF CF vehicles were designed and manufactured by Boweld. They are fitted with a steel tipping body will provide services such as muck shifting, earthworks and haulage across the whole of the North West and North Wales.
Commenting on the vehicles, Neil Hassall, managing director of ASH Group Ltd, said: The new tippers represent the progressive values we hold central to our business. Not only are they fitted with the latest in steel tipping bodies to improve both tipping performance and truck appearance, we wanted to convey that message in the trucks design too, which is why each cab has been wrapped to a high standard and each with a unique rear decal highlighting the 20 tonne payload they are capable of carrying.
Norfolk recycler buys fifth Weidemann loader
A Norfolk based recycling firm has invested in a new Weidemann articulated loader, the fifth the company has owned since the late 1980s.
MW White of Ketteringham near Norwich is a family owned business and moved to the current, purpose-built site in 1993 where it has grown steadily to a point where it is now handling nearly 1300 tonne of dry recyclables every week.
According to managing director Paul White, every Weidemann machine has played an important role in the day-to-day activity. He said: For our inside working the 4070 model we chose this time is big and powerful enough to do the job with ease but also compact enough to work in some fairly confined areas. The machines have come a long way since the first ones but they have always been comfortable to operate and very reliable, and the service provided by local dealer Ben Burgess has been faultless.
The 4070 telescopic loader is one of nearly 40 models in Weidemanns range of articulated wheeled loaders. Weighing in at 5800 kg, this unit is powered by a fuel-efficient Perkins 4-cylinder engine developing 74.5 kW at 2200 rpm and features a tilting cab structure which provides access for routine servicing and maintenance.

JCB looks to tackle theft with immobilisers
JCB has announced that all of its JCB mini and mini excavators sold in the UK now feature its 3-star Thatcham approved immobiliser fitted as standard, in a bid to stamp out plant theft.
The 801 mini excavators were the first to be fitted with the immobilisers in 2010 and the security measures have gradually been rolled out to the rest of the range, meaning the final three models, the 8025, 8030 and 8035ZTS machines have the security device.
JCB said that with over 1 million worth of plant stolen every week across the UK and Ireland – and just 5% ever recovered – this move will protect thousands more machines against theft and reduce insurance premiums on them by up to 45%.
JCBs UK & Ireland sales director Yvette Henshall-Bell said: This latest announcement is another clear signal of our commitment in the on-going fight against plant theft in the UK. JCBs development of a 3-star Thatcham approved immobiliser and decision to fit it as standard across our mini and midi excavator range sends a clear message to our customers. We will continue to invest in measures to help protect their businesses and reduce the cost of owning JCB equipment.
