Seven of the vehicles are rear steer vehicles which will be used within the inner city area. Dennis Eagle said the vehicles have improved mobility, making it easier for operators to access the narrow inner city streets. They also have a greater payload capability, which reduces the amount of journeys the vehicles have to make to be emptied.

Paul Hobday, regional sales manager for Dennis Eagle, said: Plymouth had used Dennis Eagle vehicles for several years in the past so its always nice to see a customer return. Were pleased the vehicles are proving to be positive additions to their fleet and hope to continue working with Plymouth City Council for many more years to come.

York partners with Nestl for vehicle MOTs

City of York council has joined forces with international food manufacturer Nestl in a deal which will see all council vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, including refuse collection vehicles, get their MOT at its workshop in the city.

The arrangement will see the council saving around 5,000 every year. The council said the workshop became the first vehicle workshop in North Yorkshire to become an Authorised Testing Facility in March 2011. Nestl said it was keen to find more partners to share in the venture.

Commenting on the deal, Graham Lyon, LGV fleet manager for Nestl, said: We were keen to look for partners to share in the venture, and First Bus was one of the first to come on board. We are really pleased to welcome City of York Council and the benefit it will bring to the council and York residents.

The firm supplied two 2008 Volvo FM, Telehoist TL22 hook-loaders to Swindon Commercial Services (SCS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Swindon borough council. SCS said it moved from long-term hire vehicles to remanufactured ones as the contracts were not proving to be cost effective.

RVS also supplied a 2008 Dennis Elite 2 with 2005 Remanufactured Phoenix 2 body and Beta Trade Lift to Scottish waste management firm Binnwaste Management. Binnwaste said it plans to replace its fleet of over 30 vehicles with remanufactured ones from RVS in the future.

Mark Cairns, transport manager at Binnwaste Management, said: We visited RVS and we were very impressed with what we saw. We ordered a vehicle and got a brilliant motor for half the cost of a new one. It was delivered in under nine weeks, which is practically unheard of if you order direct from manufacturers. Were already planning to order another vehicle and if RVS can continue to provide this standard of vehicle and service there is no reason for us to go elsewhere.

VWS said this was the first time its weighing systems have been used in Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland-based refuse vehicle supplier Manvik Plant & Hire Ltd won the tender to provide six vehicles to the authority, two of which specified weighing equipment which has been provided by VWS. The firm said Enviroweigh provides accuracy of 0.5% or better and can be used for pay-for-weight services. The vehicles were also equipped with VWS Loadweigh-Can on-board weighing system.

Julian Glasspole, managing director for VWS said: This is a very exciting development for us as its the first time we have supplied our bin weighing technology to Northern Ireland. We look forward to continuing our excellent relationship with Manvik.

Edbro launches clamp to reduce rattling in tipper trucks

Manufacturer of hydraulic truck tipping hoists, Edbro has launched a product designed to prevent tipper bodies from rattling whilst in transit.

Edbro said the Body Clamp helps to prolong tipper life and reduce the damage caused by the body rattling. When travelling without a load it is common for a trucks body to rattle due to the vibrations caused by uneven road surfaces. Edbro said over time this can cause damage to the chassis and even cracks in the body, which can result in unscheduled maintenance requirements or even reduced service life. The Body Clamp, available in steel or aluminium, is designed to prevent this and is suitable for most tipping vehicles.

Peter Smith, sales and marketing director for Edbro, said: We enjoy a good relationship with our customers and are always keen to design solutions to address specific concerns. The rattling of empty tipper bodies is a real problem for operators, and one which can lead to early failure and reduced profits. The Body Clamp is an efficient solution which improves service life and reduces noise pollution.
