Urbaser in £1.5m deal to hire 7 RCVs for Herts

Urbaser has received seven new refuse collection vehicles (RCVs)  from vehicle supply specialists Fiveway group, to be used for its £65 million collections contract with  North and East Hertfordshire council.

Urbaser has spent £1.5 million on the deal, and the RCVs will be rolled out instantly

Urbaser won the seven-year collections contract from Veolia in 2017 (see letsrecycle.com story), which was valued at £65 million in total.

This included the hiring of a new collection fleet, which has now been delivered. The total cost to Urbaser is thought to be approximately £1.5 million.

Jose Ramon-Sanchez, operations director UK of Urbaser, said: “Leasing through Fiveways provides Urbaser with a really cost-effective way of maintaining an efficient and sustainable fleet throughout the life of the contracts we manage.

“In addition to offering unrivalled reliability, these vehicles are fitted with the latest telematics which means we can now accurately monitor driver behaviour and fuel usage. We estimate this will enable us to reduce emissions by a further 10% while maintaining the highest levels of service for our client and the residents of North and East Hertfordshire.”

The new additions to the fleet comprise six 26-tonne, 6×2 Rear Steer (narrow), Dennis Eagle RCVs with twin pack bodies – enabling the collection of multiple waste streams and one standard open back 26-tonne vehicle with a single chamber.

According to the FiveWay Group, the vehicles are “some of the safest and most efficient to be operating anywhere in the UK and boast the latest Fleetclear tracking and telematics technology”.

This new software provides an” integrated platform to increase safety, efficiency and compliance”.

Some of its features include asset tracking functionality,  real-time vehicle chassis and body telematics data and fuel, carbon and electric vehicle analysis, as well as real time trim and share and video caching service.

Urbaser explained that leasing the seven vehicles “is a highly efficient way to ensure that residents continue to be serviced by the latest and most efficient vehicles for the remainder of the contractual period”.

In addition to the seven contracted vehicles, Fiveways has also supplied an additional vehicle “free of charge to cover scheduled services and MOTs and add further value”.
