The incident involved a tyre-fitter, believed to be an outside contractor, who became trapped between his lorry and its hydraulically-powered crane.
Hampshire police were called to the Chatsworth Blue Haze site at Somerley near Ringwood at 4.24pm on Wednesday afternoon, after the 35-year-old man from Wales was found by colleagues trapped in his own vehicle.
The man, who has not been named by the police, was a tyre-fitter who had been preparing to change the tyres on a tipper vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Dorset Ambulance Service, which Police said more details would be revealed about the incident in due course, once the next of kin had been informed.
Veolia
A spokeswoman for Veolia said today: “We very much regret to report that at approximately 15.30 yesterday a fatal incident occurred at our Blue Haze landfill site in Hampshire. A tyre fitter working for an outside contractor was attending the site with a Hi-Ab rig (vehicle with a hydraulic arm) which he was preparing to use to change tyres on a tipper truck.”
“Tragically it appears that whilst setting up he was trapped by his own equipment in his own vehicle. The emergency services have attended the site and the death has been confirmed.
“A full investigation is being carried out with the relevant authorities,” the Veolia spokeswoman added.
