Rather than the conventional system of periodic collections by trucks, Tyrebin leaves the containers at the premises of tyre distributors. The customer can then fill them and notify Tyrebin when the bin is full and ready for collection. The bin is then exchanged for an empty unit and its contents are recycled either on site or through an approved partner.

The Tyrebins are specially-designed, covered containers with rear opening doors to provide floor-level access. They are also lockable to provide secure storage in line with Environment Agency Waste Containment rules and offer protection against fires whether started accidentally or deliberately. They also help to make sites look tidier. In some cases, the company also said that it had even been able to justify current and even increased disposal charges to their customers with the presence of a Tyrebin.

Skip Units has initially supplied Tyrebin with three bins to add to their current fleet. The bins are roofed, lockable waste containers of 40 cubic yard capacity, enough for 600 mixed car tyres or 120 truck tyres. They are finished in Tyrebin's royal blue colour and carry the company's logo, contact details and “Environmental Tyre Recycling” pledge.

Located in Carlisle, Tyrebin is the tyre recycling division of Dundee Tyres Ltd, founded in 1967. The company is licensed by the Environment Agency as a waste carrier and a waste transfer station and all collections are issued with a Waste Transfer Certificate.

Approved to ISO 9001:2000, the Skip Units Group manufactures a complete range of open and roofed containers in different capacities, lengths and heights to customers' requirements and for all vehicle modes, including hook, cable and chain lifting. They range from lightweight upright containers for collection of paper and cardboard, to heavy-duty upright containers for scrap metal, sand and gravel, with capacities from 2 to 50 cubic metres (4 to 65 cubic yards) and the option to fit Skip Units' own design of safety locking gear.
