Two key posts filled at WRAP

Mr Barritt has more than 30 years' experience in the aggregates and quarrying industries and specialises in recycled aggregates.

His most recent role was managing director for Tarmac Recycling.

The appointment is the first for WRAP's new aggregates programme, which was announced in April as a result of the new Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund, set up to reduce the environmental impact of primary aggregates extraction.

From this, 15.5m has been allocated to reducing demand for primary aggregates and encouraging recycling and re-use through a joint initiative by WRAP and the Department of Trade and Industry's Construction Innovation and Research Management programme.

Mr Barritt will work on standards and specifications for recycled aggregates and provide of information and advice.
Rebecca Hooper, formerly of the Building Research Establishment, has been named as aggregates manager and Debbie McGarry as aggregates administrator.

*WRAP has named Stefan Kay as project monitor for its operation to deliver capital support for the newsprint industry, in order to significantly increase newspaper and magazine recycling.

He will monitor and verify progress against the contractual milestones set out by WRAP and its contractor, UPM-Kymmene (UK), in the development of the facility at Shotton, north Wales.

Mr Kay brings 34 years' of paper industry experience to the project, having been managing director of Inveresk, and a former president of the Paper Federation of Great Britain.
