Jeffrey Hain, 66, his wife Marion, 69, and their 36-year-old son Christopher from Rochdale died at the scene after they collided with the heavy goods vehicle travelling in the opposite direction at around 11.15am on Wednesday (March 28).
The lorry driver, who has not been identified, suffered minor injuries and was discharged from hospital the same day.
The A47 was closed for around eight hours following the incident, while police in Norfolk are continuing to appeal for help in tracing the familys next of kin. Norfolk Police also wants to speak to anyone who my have witnessed the collision and is able to provide any details as to how it occurred.
A spokesperson for East of England Ambulance Service said: We were called at 11.18am to a road traffic collision between a car and a lorry on the A47 near East Winch. We sent three ambulances, an ambulance officer, two rapid response cars, and East Anglian Air Ambulance to the incident.
“Unfortunately despite the best efforts of all of the emergency services, three people were sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”
‘Shaken’
Speaking to letsrecycle.com today, a spokesman for Fred Sherwood & Sons Transport confirmed that one of the firms vehicles had been involved in the collision, and said the driver had been badly shaken by the incident.
The firm, which has some 200 vehicles providing haulage services for scrap metals, grains, solid fuel, ashes, waste and recycling materials, went on to confirm its operations were continuing as normal, and it is cooperating with Norfolk Police in their ongoing investigation of the collision.
