The Week in Waste – July 24 2015

Take a look at the ‘Week in Waste’ video report.

In this week’s report by letsrecycle.com, sponsored by Biffa, we aim to give you a snapshot of the news in the world of recycling and waste management. This week we take a look at increasing waste arisings in England’s cities, the latest twist in a high profile dispute over landfill tax and news that Chancellor George Osborne has ordered government departments to prepare for 40% cuts.

Also featured in the report is the launch of letsrecycle.com’s Summer Selfie competition.

The video report comes as letsrecycle.com continues to develop its coverage of recycling news, to serve the growing demands of our audience of up to 7,200 daily users.

Local Authorities should also look at economics of waste collection and have single-bin collections and sorting out only materials that have a market value.

No, LAs should collect as much material for recycling as possible. The less that is disposed of the greater the avoided cost of disposal. Metals, paper, card, plastics, glass all have markets if their quality is right. It’s all about commodity management not waste management.
