Contestants on prime-time BBC One show The Apprentice will this week be tasked with generating value from waste.

At the start of Wednesdays (June 8) programme, Lord Sugars 10 remaining business hopefuls will meet at a rubbish dump where they will be instructed to form junk collection businesses as a means of uncovering hidden value in discarded items.
After having previously branded and marketed dog-food and developed mobile phone applications, the episode, entitled Rubbish, will see the participants face-off against tough cockney scrap dealers and quick-witted builders.
The two teams will then divide up, with half in a truck collecting material and the other half attempting to attract businesses and quote on some clearance operations arranged by Lord Sugar.
According to the BBC preview for the episode which is the sixth episode of the seventh series of the popular show the challenge turns out to be physically and mentally exhausting, with one project manager being reduced to tears.
Previewing the episode, the BBC states: Plans fail to deliver and some swift rethinks save the day as both teams fight for margins in a world of totting-up, rounding-down and folding money.
Lord Sugar loves this type of task and in the boardroom he picks over the results with relish. The numbers prove almost too close to call, but one team stumbles and there is nothing for it but to find someone to carry the can, then it’s – ‘You’re fired!’.
The show marks the latest foray into the world of waste management for mainstream television, having covered the issue of the illegal exports of WEEE on the BBCs Panorama and tailed Viridor chief executive Colin Drummond on Channel Four series Undercover Boss.
The latest episode of The Apprentice is aired on BBC One on Wednesday June 8 at 9pm and will be repeated on BBC Three on Friday June 10 at 7pm.
