Supply chain focus at Retail Environment conference

Entitled ‘The Green Agenda’, the event is set to take place at Holborn Bars in London on November 11 2014. It follows the successful launch of Environment Media Group’s publication Retail Environment – a bi-monthly magazine covering sustainability in the retail industry and supply chain – in May 2013. Similar to the magazine, the Retail Environment conference will cover a range of key areas that affect retailers. Session titles and speakers include:

• Staff engagement in recycling practices – to be presented by Sharon Parsons, waste manager for B&Q;
• Moving waste up the waste hierarchy;
• Courtauld Commitment 3: an update by David Moon, head of food and drink at WRAP;
• A better retailing climate: the progress so far by Alice Ellison, the British Retail Consortium’s environment policy advisor; and,
• Interacting with the local community by Jo Daniels, sustainable communities manager at Marks & Spencer.

With supply chains coming under increasing scrutiny, owing to a number of notable cases hitting the headlines in 2013/2014 sustainable sourcing in retail will also gain exposure at the event with presentations on traceability in the food chain, international workers’ rights and ethical fashion choices.

The environmental impact of retail is also up for discussion with a presentation entitled ‘Home deliveries: the greener option?’ Sustainable energy practices and how retailers can cut the financial burden of one of their biggest overheads while reducing its impact on the environment will also be explored.
