The newly refurbished shop has opened on Stock Road and is the waste management company’s 34th reuse outlet.
Reuse shops provide a retail space for residents to both donate and purchase reusable household items.
Suez Vincent Masseri, general manager for Suez, said: “We know people have a choice of where to buy goods and, if they want to reduce their carbon footprint, save money and help a fantastic local charity, opting for pre-loved over new is the way to go.
“Reuse shops like the one at Stock Road aim to reduce the reliance on the Earth’s dwindling reserve of raw materials and keep products out of the waste stream by extending their lifespan through re-using, repairing or repurposing them.”
The shop is a partnership with Essex charity, Havens Hospices, which will manage the store as part of a chain of outlets it runs throughout the county.
The proceeds from the reuse shop will go towards its charity work.
The council said that is making several other improvements to make it easier for residents to heir household items and reduce unwanted waste.
Southend cabinet member for climate, environment and waste, councillor Lydia Hyde, said: “We’re delighted to support the opening of the Havens Hospices shop at Stock Road HWRC.
“This fantastic initiative gives residents the opportunity to donate reusable items, helping to reduce waste while supporting the incredible care Havens Hospices provides to our community.
“It’s a practical and meaningful way for people to make a real difference.”
