The special conference session, from 1.45-2.15pm on Tuesday June 15, will be the first time that the Minister has addressed the wider UK waste industry since taking up the post last month, and will provide delegates with a chance to hear about the coalition government's plans on the environment.

“We are delighted that the Secretary of State will be attending Futuresource, and we welcome her involvement at a time when there are many challenges and opportunities facing our sector,” said Steve Lee, chief executive of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, which organizes the annual conference and trade fair in partnership with the Environmental Services Association.

Lord Henley, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State with responsibility for waste and recycling, will also be attending the first day (June 15) of the three-day event, and will be given an official tour of the exhibition by the CIWM President Terry March and Cllr Paul Bettison, Chairman of Improvement & Efficiency South East and Local Authority Co-ordinators of Regulatory Services (LACORS).

Exhibitors

Futuresource 2010 brings together the sustainable waste management, recycling and resource efficiency sector and its major client base under one roof. With some 300 exhibitors, a full conference programme and an expected 9,000 attendees from across the UK and Europe, it provides the ideal platform for public, private and third sector professionals to come together to debate and help shape the future of waste, recycling and resource management.

With companies and visitors from across the UK, Futuresource is also pleased to announce that both Edwin Poots MLA, Environment Minister for Northern Ireland, and Jane Davidson, the Welsh Minister for the Environment, Sustainability and Housing, will also be speaking at the event and touring the exhibition floor.

Contractors

In addition to a strong political line-up, Futuresource will provide visitors and delegates with the latest developments in every area of waste and resource management, from food waste to finance, and from exports to energy from waste. The UK's largest waste and recycling contractors will be there, alongside cutting edge ‘green' vehicles and plant, and big names from the civil engineering sector. Innovation on show will range from the newest container designs to software that will help local authorities deliver efficiency savings in the future.
