South and east best for recycling and composting

The south east, south west, and east regions lead the way on recycling and composting, according to regional quality of life figures issued today by the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

The lowest levels of recycling and composting were recorded in the north east and Yorkshire and the Humber

Since 1998/99, the largest increases in these activities has been in the east midlands and west midlands, and the lowest in the south west.

Indicators cover various aspects of sustainable development in 15 categories.
