Included in the project will be the operation of services such as the network of household waste recycling centres, compost sites and landfill. It will also encorporate the building of new waste treatment facilities to further reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
Following a competitive procurement exercise, the council’s executive board has decided to pursue negotiations with Viridor. It is expected that the Executive Board will be recommended in January to appoint Viridor as preferred bidder.
Financial closure for the project is hoped to be reached in March 2006, with the new contracts running from April 2006.

Viridor has been based in Taunton since the Company began in 1956, and has said that it is pleased with the council’s recommendation and looks forward to successfully concluding negotiations.
