Skan acquires waste vehicle specialists Boughton

West Midlands-based holding company Skan Group has acquired the assets and businesses of the waste vehicle and equipment manufacturing companies that previously made up the Boughton Group from administrators Baker Tilly.

Skan, which already owns Wolverhampton-based specialist vehicle and equipment firm Oldbury UK, acquired the companies Reynolds Boughton Limited and Reynolds Boughton (Devon) Ltd – as a going concern.

The acquisition means that the two Boughton Group companies, which operate from manufacturing sites at Barton-under-Needwood in Staffordshire and Winkleigh in Devon respectively will now be known as a single entity, Boughton Engineering Limited.

Waste and recycling vehicles and equipment including hookloaders, ejectors, trailers and skiploaders are among the key pieces of equipment manufactured at the Boughton sites, alongside defence and fire & rescue vehicles.

The company has been involved in engineering since 1897, and worked in scrap handling and manufacturing vehicles such as skiploaders as early as the 1950s.

The Boughton Group had entered administration on April 1, but Skan Group managing director Richard Skan today (May 5) claimed the companys strengths would allow it to improve its position in the future.

Like many companies in the commercial vehicle sector, Reynolds Boughton suffered from the difficult trading conditions experienced over the last couple of years, he said.

“However, with a sound engineering background and some world-class products, it is in a strong position to return to better times as the market recovers.

Mr Skan also highlighted the strong financial backing the Skan Group would offer Boughton, as well as its existing customer base and workforce, and he pointed to the potential for Boughton to work alongside Skans other subsidiary, Oldbury UK.

He said: This is an important strategic step for the Skan Group. There are strong synergies with Oldbury UK already and I am confident that there are also significant opportunities for us to develop together in the future.

The Skan familys philosophy includes a strong commitment to the continuous development of its businesses, supported by ongoing investment in products, people and processes.

Speed

Baker Tillys Graham Bushby, who has been in control of the Boughton Group alongside Guy Mander since it went into administration, welcomed the speed with which Skan had acquired the company and the fact that it would continue to operate in the UK.

With the Skan Groups commitment to investment development, the future for the business now looks bright and we wish them every success for the future, he added.
