The three-year contract with Business Post, the UK arm of the carrier and service provider FedEx, will start in June 2003. SITA One-UK, the company's national account division, will serve the parcel distributor's 22 distribution hubs and 40 franchise sites.
Terry Tucker, Business Post's quality and purchasing manager, said: “We are pleased to have linked up with SITA. Having a national contract is the way forward, with the knowledge that our waste requirements are being cost-effectively managed and our environmental obligations are being cared for.”
A spokesperson for SITA said: “We are collecting a whole range of waste materials, for example electrical items. We are responsible for the company's WEEE obligations and will collect their old office equipment.”
Business Post, whose nationwide network is based in Birmingham, had an annual turnover of 156.3 million for 2003, an increase of 18.7%. The recent launch of UK Mail uses the company's overnight logistics speciality and the Royal Mail's delivery infrastructure to offer an alternative to the Royal Mail letter service.
The main feature of the new contract with SITA One-UK will be the large volumes of paper waste: “We are looking at various schemes for paper waste recycling. We are working with these companies in their locations for more sustainable waste management.”
