This is simply a strategic move to focus on those other regions as part of our on-going work in the UK.

The firm – which is the UK subsidiary of Suez Environnement – has acquired a depot at Genderos to the north of the city which provides waste and recycling collection services for industrial and commercial businesses across South Wales, from Cardiff to Haverfordwest and Milford Haven.
The business currently has 20 employees and one told letsrecycle.com that she believed they would be keeping their jobs.
The acquisition adds to SITA's growing portfolio of sites in Wales after the company bought Pembrokeshire-based Resources Management UK. The acquisition of the Haverfordwest-based firm saw SITA take charge of the Welsh company's MRF and landfill site at Rudbaxton and also its existing collection contract with Pembrokeshire county council (see letsrecycle.com story).
Shanks Group had announced its intention to sell the Swansea business in its Interim Results for 2008 (see letsrecycle.com story) as part of a plan to focus on its operations in three strategic regions: Scotland, East Midlands and the Northern Home Counties.
A Shanks statement said: “The proceeds from the divestment of our Swansea business will be reinvested as part of our programme of building a network of processing centres based on the Shanks Benelux model which has more than ten years experience in this field.”
Speaking to letsrecycle.com, a Shanks spokesman added: “This is simply a strategic move to focus on those other regions as part of our on-going work in the UK.”
