The blue boxes were launched as a pilot scheme for paper, glass, plastic, cans and textiles to 16,000 homes, and the council now plans to expand this. The past year also saw 6,000 wheelie bins issued to 6,000 homes in a composting pilot scheme, and the opening of a municipal waste composting facility at Greenfield.
Around 3,000 tonnes of newsprint was recycled in Flintshire during 2002, and the council says it now expects to double this.
