Scottish council workers to get pay offer till 2004 next Wednesday

Scottish councils today (Friday) agreed a pay offer for local government employees running through to 2004 which will be formally put to the union side of the Scottish Joint Council next week. But, details of the offer will not be revealed until after a meeting with unions next week.

Pat Watters, Vice President of the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, paid tribute to the team involved in developing the offer: “Those involved putting this together have worked hard to come up with an offer which is not only ground-breaking and imaginative, but will bring certainty to councils and their employees on pay until 2004.

“I believe that when the offer is formally put to the unions they will see this in as positive a light as we do and that we will have an early and successful conclusion to these negotiations.”

The full SJC meets in Glasgow on Wednesday February 7 when the employers side will formally put the offer agreed today to the union side comprising UNISON, GMB and T&GWU.;

Details of the offer will only be released by COSLA after that meeting.
