Registration open for the London Conference

The capital’s waste and recycling sector is gearing up for the 2022 London Conference, which celebrates its seventh anniversary this year, returning in-person after last being held in 2019.

This year’s event takes place on 23 March at the Hallam Conference Centre, London.

Among the discussed issues will be the potential impact of implementing the Resources and Waste Strategy specifically on London boroughs.

This will include addressing EPR and DRS. Policy makers and service providers will offer guidance on current issues London waste and recycling teams are facing, approached from national, regional, and local perspectives.

In a mixture of panel discussions, case studies and practical guidance, London local authorities will look to address the urban challenges of today.

Sessions

In the first session, Andrew Buchan, director at ReLondon will speak on the changes London has seen and continued to face over the last couple of years, providing fresh insight into the process of working towards a circular economy across London.

An expert speaker from Ecosurety will then discuss maximising recycling in purpose-built flats, following ongoing work on their WEEE, textiles and food waste recycling project.

Panel discussions on EPR, DRS and consistency will cover the impact of Covid on waste tonnage as well. The costs and challenges of electric vehicles will, too, be discussed. Industry leaders such as Eunomia, LARAC, Serco and others will share their views.

This year’s event is sponsored by Bartec Municipial Technologies, in association with ReLondon, and supported by LARAC.

Tickets are £250 plus VAT and £160 plus VAT for local authorities.

Case studies

The fourth session will close with case studies. The first case study will look at provision for reuse and recycling in the context of new built development.

Executive director at Positively Putney will present the company’s bike transport case, which is part of a scheme that uses electronic bikes to collect waste. More case studies and learning sessions from the industry will follow.

The programme will continue with a district heat networks case study, and Doug Simpson from ReLondon will deliver an academy session on assisting local authorities with achieving set circular economy targets.

Each session will have time for Q&A, and there will be networking opportunities throughout the day.
