Reducing waste ‘central’ to Sutton’s climate emergency

VIDEO REPORT: Reducing waste is Sutton council’s “number one priority” in its climate emergency plans, a councillor told letsrecycle.com while also hailing the council’s move away from landfill.

And, the council has been discussing ways in which to reduce carbon emissions with its waste contractor Veolia.

Sutton announced a ‘climate emergency’ last year, and councillor Manuel Abellan, chair of the environment and neighbourhood committee at Sutton council, spoke with letsrecycle.com on what the council is doing, the role the waste sector plays in this and the impact legislation changes will make.

He also threw his support behind many of the measures in the Environment Bill, including a Deposit Return Scheme.
